HCII Presentation-Scenarios in Medical UX

Project Summary

Objective: Physicians occasionally use references (aids) to assist in diagnosis. Although they can be helpful, patients do not always have a high perception of their physicians as those who do not use an aid. The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of different aids on patients’ perception of their physician’s effectiveness and discuss the use of scenarios for evaluating the user experience within medical fields.

Methods: Participants were asked to read a scenario in which a patient visited a physician who used an aid (computer program or physician desk reference) or not. On competition, participants rated the physician on seven different performance characteristics.

Outcomes: There was no significant difference between the aid types on any physician performance metrics. Despite this, the uses of scenarios in medical UX has enormous potential.

Work performed: Study development, Scenarios, Data collection/analysis, Presentation, User research.
